Import the TagWatch GTM template
The TagWatch GTM template adds event tracking to any GTM container in minutes, with no code and no manual copy work. Download the template file and walk through the steps below; every screen shown here matches Tag Manager as it looks today.
Download the template file
Click the button below to download tagwatch-template.tpl. This is GTM's native template format, a plain text file you import into your container. The Event Tracking wizard in the app hands you the same file with your Tenant ID already filled in; this download is the blank version.
Open Templates and click New
In your GTM container, click Templates in the left sidebar. In the Tag Templates card, click New. The Template Editor opens.
Import the file through the editor's menu
In the Template Editor, click the three-dot menu ⋮ in the top-right corner and choose Import. A file picker opens; select the tagwatch-template.tpl file from step 1.

Save and close the editor
The editor fills with the template: the name, the fields, the code and one permission, the right to send a pixel to tagwatch-api.up.railway.app. That single permission is all the template can do. Click Save, then close the editor with the ✕.

Create a tag from the template
Go to Tags, click New, and click the Tag Configuration card. The Choose tag type panel slides in. Your template stands in the Custom section, under Custom HTML and Custom Image.

Fill in the two fields, attach a trigger, publish
The tag has two fields. Tenant ID is filled in already when the template came from the wizard; otherwise copy it from Settings. Event Name is the event this tag counts, for example purchase. Attach a trigger, for example the GA4 purchase event, then publish the container.

After the container is published, the event shows up on the Incoming Events tab within a minute of its first fire, marked by the pulsing dot. One click there puts a monitor on it.
Tips
Let the wizard hand you the file
The Event Tracking wizard in the app offers this template with your Tenant ID already filled in, so the one field people mistype is typed for them.
One tag per event
Create a separate tag for each event you want to track (purchase, add_to_cart, generate_lead). Each tag uses the same template; only the Event Name changes.
Use your exact event names
The Event Name is how the event appears on the Incoming Events tab. Pick the names you recognise; the monitor is created from that list afterwards.
Test before publishing
Use GTM Preview mode to verify the tag fires. The Incoming Events tab shows a count within a minute of the first real fire.
