How-to guideConversion monitors

Set up conversion monitors

A conversion monitor connects to the platform itself and watches the numbers you steer on: your GA4 key events and your Google Ads conversions. Every tag can load fine while conversions still fall, and this monitor catches exactly that. TagWatch checks every morning against the same day last week, and it reads the numbers the way the platform reports them.

1

Open Conversions and click Create monitor

From the sidebar, click Conversions. Then hit Create monitor in the top-right corner. The Set up conversion alerts dialog opens.

2

Choose where your conversions live

Pick Google Ads or Google Analytics 4. Meta Ads carries a Coming soon badge while Meta reviews our app; the channel opens the moment that review completes.

Connect your Google account

TagWatch sends you to Google to grant access, and you land right back in the dialog. The access is read only: TagWatch reads numbers and changes nothing in your account.

Connect your Google account

TagWatch fetches the conversions from your account so you can pick which ones to watch. You will be sent to Google to grant access and land right back here.

Pick the account or property

Every Google Ads account or GA4 property your Google account can read is listed. Click the one to watch. Do you manage many client accounts? The Bulk button selects several at once, and the safety nets from the next step apply to each of them.

Leave the safety nets on

The safety nets watch the account as a whole, so a problem that hits everything at once is always caught, even before you pick a single conversion. For Google Ads that is the account total, with conversion value as an option. For GA4 the nets are website traffic, all key events together, and key events from paid channels.

Tick the conversions to watch and create

Every conversion in the account is listed with its volume over the last 30 days, so you see at a glance which ones matter. Tick the ones to watch and click create. The Sensitivity switch sets how sharp the alerts are: Standard alerts when conversions all but stop, a drop of 90% or more against the same day last week. Sensitive alerts at a drop of half.

The monitors appear on the Conversions page and run every morning from then on. When a number falls, you get an alert that names the conversion, the account, and the size of the drop.

How the numbers are read

  • Google Ads is read by conversion date, not click date

A click-date number restates itself for days after the fact, which looks like a drop that heals on its own. By conversion date, yesterday is complete when the morning check runs.

  • The check follows the ad account timezone

A US account is never judged on a day that is still in progress locally. The day boundary is the account platform setting, not our server clock.

  • The number matches what the platform shows

TagWatch reads the same figure you see in the platform interface. You can forward an alert to a client without translating it first.

Tips

  • Watch conversions that happen daily

A conversion that fires a few times a week makes an uncertain baseline. Tick the daily ones and let the safety nets carry the rare ones.

  • Standard first, Sensitive where it hurts

Standard only alerts on critical drops, so it stays quiet. Put Sensitive on the one or two conversions where a drop of half is already an emergency.

  • Agencies: use the Bulk button

Pick several ad accounts in one pass. The safety nets are created for each account, and shared conversions can be watched across all of them.

  • Full control lives in the advanced setup

The link at the bottom of the dialog opens the advanced wizard: custom thresholds, periods and baselines per monitor.
